Spring Reset Ideas

Now that winter is behind us, and spring is now officially here, it’s a good time for a mini reset. In Michigan, the plants are shooting up fast and beautiful blooms are already sprouting in our garden. Everything refreshes in spring and I thought a spring reset in my everyday life was a good idea. Here are my spring reset ideas for a refresh mid year!
The Unnecessary
I started my spring reset in the pantry, throwing out expired food and rearranging the rest. It was nice being able to easily see what we had on the shelves. Moving on, I emptied the fridge, throwing out expired or unwanted food, cleaning the shelves and restocking. Neither of these refreshes took much time and when it was done, very satisfying.
Next I moved onto the bath, where I threw out expired make-up, lotions, etc. Once I cleaned out and organized the bath cabinets I could see what I needed to reorder, like my face lotion, serums, etc.
The Set-Up
After a little clean out in those spaces, I cleared off the visual clutter from table and desktops. I put away decor I was a little bored with and swapped them out with items I had stored away. It was surprising how it really refreshed the feeling in each room. I bought storage containers for smaller items like paper clips, pens, and in the kitchen drawers for gadgets I use often. Everything now stored and put away, looks and feels so much better in my home.
Digital Space
This one, easily done too but I admit took a good part of an afternoon to get in better order. First I deleted photos off my iPhone and then offloaded a lot of the remaining ones to my external hard drive. Using a lightening cable, I moved the pics and cleared out a lot of space on my phone. I wanted to keep some nice photos but didn’t necessarily want them indefinitely on my iPhone. I set up folders by subject on my external hard drive, while not necessary, I found it worth the effort.
Moving on, I went through my iPhone and got rid of apps I no longer use and rearranged my screen in a way that was easier to quickly access. On a separate afternoon, I went through my computer and cleared out unnecessary files and photos on it’s hard drive as well.
As an aside, I would suggest learning a new program either with a few YouTube videos or taking an online class – something that would be useful to your work or just for fun.
Mindfulness
Wanting a bit of a mental cleanse, I remembered how much better and centered I felt back when I used to journal. I had two journals, a regular thoughts on a page one and a bullet journal. So I bought a beautiful new journal, a hot pink one with a dot grid and with a fancy drawing pen I picked up at the craft store and wrote “May” and began to write. I find it so helpful to get my thoughts out of my mind and onto page where it has a sort of clearing effect.
Bullet Journaling is also a useful way to keep track of anything you want or need to, as it is completely set up and arranged by you. I particularly like separating my every day with “Futures” so I can focus on what I need to in the immediate, while still keeping future things on my radar. If you need help setting up one, you can learn from Ryder Carroll, who invented Bullet Journaling here.
Lastly, I’ve been trying to do less rabbit hole scrolling on my phone before bed. Less screen time, especially before bed makes me calmer and wards off bloodshot eyes. I’ve been listening to music and reading a book, or if you know me it’s a rotation of books. Choose a book that will help you unwind, calm you and soothe your soul. I’ll link some of my current favorites below.
Health/Body
Spring is what we long for in Michigan after the long winter days – usually November to early April. Like many others, I went to a local park to walk by the water and take in the beauty of the flowers and plants coming up. Exercising outdoors is so good for our entire bodies including our minds. It helps to get quiet and even to sit on a park bench to read a book or just take in fresh air.
For my reset, I also added in a few supplements to my regular daily vitamin regimen. At different ages our bodies need a little more help in some areas. I added in a pre-post Probiotic to help with my gut health and CoEnzyme Q10 for heart health.
It’s also a good time to schedule check ups, to drink more water (always a good idea) and to work some sort of exercise into your routine, preferably outdoors where you can get some fresh air.
Creative Self
My last spring reset suggestion is this for creatives…to add in an Artist’s Date as is suggested in a great book for all creatives by Julia Cameron, “The Artist’s Way“. You schedule time for a solo date where you gain inspiration by doing something to stir your creativity as an artist. For instance, you could visit an art museum, write in a cafe, go out to draw or take photographs, whatever inspires you. For me, bookstores, wandering around taking photographs and even going to open mic nights have been inspiring. Just as an aside, Steven Pressfield’s “The War of Art” is also a good book if you’re a creative.
That’s a Wrap!
Well, there you have my bit of a spring reset! I hope it inspires you to refresh your life with a little spring reset (your version) of your own. And as promised, my reading suggestions are linked below.
